As with any KQ, the first thing you will want to do when you get into a kq is to get a party. Once you have your party your ready to go.The main objective in the KQ is to kill Mara and Marlone, it may sound easy however it is harder than it sounds.
Captain Mara's Pirate Ship is a straightforward path leading to the end of the KQ. Along the way there are lots of mobs you can kill. However, unlike King Slime, the Mara KQ doesn't require you to have killed every mob in order to succeed. This means any mob that isn't in you way you can leave alive. Even though you can leave alot of mobs alive, there are still quite alot that will stand in your way so theres no problem with completing the quests. Because you don't need to kill the mobs, some players take on a tactic known as rushing. Rushing basically means running as quickly as possible down the path and ignoring anything that attacks you. However, this normally ends up with alot of people dying, alot of pots and stones used and the group being split in two, it is not advised. In this KQ, the jobs of each class are a bit more pronounced as by now more skills are available to each class.
Half way down the path (marked on the map) you will notice that Mara and Marlone are standing there. These are not the real Mara and Marlone unfortunately, but they do need to be removed before you can continue. Before trying to take out Mara and Marlone, use an archer or a mage to pull out the other mobs surrounding them. Once they are dead have a rest and prepare. Killing Mara and Marlone are really the same as fighting the King Slime, however they both have their strengths and weaknesses that can help you defeat them. You still have your main tank like normal (person with most health and defence) with the clerics healing them. Marlone: Has a damaging melee attack that is fairly quick with a large amount of HP and Defence. His real power comes from his AoE attack which also binds anyone hit, preventing them from moving. However, if your attacking with melee and are not tanking, if you attack him from directly behind as far away as you can, you will not be hit from his AoE. Mara: Is like Marlone in terms of attack and hp, the main difference between the two is the AoE attack. Mara also has one but it is slightly more powerful and instead of binding the people who are hit, it stuns instead. This means that once hit, you are at the mercy of Mara. Like with Marlone, this attack can be avoided by attacking from behind as far away as possible. Once they are both dead, have a quick rest and carry on down the path to the end of the path. Get on the first ship and kill all the mobs on the right half of the ship (you can kill the other ones if you want) and have a rest. Don't go running onto the other ship, as its very hostile in there.
The other half of the ship is filled with Mara and Marlones with a few more assorted mobs. Before you go in and start trying to tank the nearest one, remember you only need to kill one of each. There may only be four of each, but only one of each is the real one. These are the two you need to kill to finish the KQ and the ones that count towards the quest. At a quick glance, all of the Mara and Marlone might look exactly the same as each other and getting the right one would be really hard and guesswork but there is a simple way to tell which is the real one and the fake ones. When you target a mob, their portrait appears in the top of your screen (with their HP) and this is how you know which the real ones and the fake ones are. The real ones have a different portrait to the fake ones. The Real Marlone: The Real Marlone is very simple to spot from the portrait once you know what you are looking for. The real Marlones portrait has horns (the rest do not) The Real Mara: The Real Mara is also very easy to spot once you know what your looking for. The real Mara's hat has a Blue symbol as opposed to a red one. Once you know which mob is which, you need to attack the real one without getting the rest following you. The best way to do this is to use an archer (or a mage if u don't have an archer) to cast poison on the mob you want to pull. This will cause the mob to follow them. Once the archer has ran back down the stairs the tank needs to use snearing kick on it to take the aggro and then you can kill it like normal. If someone has managed to pull a fake one down you have 2 options. You can either kill it or lure it away. Luring it away takes 1 person and an obedient group. The person luring it away takes the fake onto the other half of the ship and lets it kill him. Once the mob has killed the person luring it away the mob will stay over there and allows the person to be ressurected by clerics. However luring is only possible if nobody else attacks the mob otherwise it will just come back.
